2025 NHL Draft Scouting Report: Carter Amico
I believe this big defenseman from the U.S. National U18 Development Program could rise in the rankings as the season progresses. We all know that big, mobile defensemen with a tough, defensive style are popular right now in the NHL. Every team wants to dress these players to protect their territory during the playoffs.
Carter Amico should follow the trend of reliable defensemen with limited offensive talent being picked early in the draft, like Anton Silayev, Stian Solberg, and EJ Emery in the 2024 draft. Will he manage to surpass them, or will he drop in the rankings due to the challenge of projecting him into the NHL? That remains to be seen.
Carter Amico is a sought-after prototype
The season is still young, but looking at Carter Amico’s journey over the past few years, we shouldn’t expect dazzling offensive numbers. Nonetheless, the young player shows clear qualities on the ice, with or without the puck.
Personally, I’ve loved watching Carter Amico so far. He’s a defenseman who’s far from “friendly” with the competition. The right-handed defender loves to impose himself physically and punish his opponents with brute force. Whether it’s along the boards or in front of the net, you won’t get by without paying the price when he’s around.
Skilled nonetheless
The American has something that many scouts love, aside from his clear mean streak and imposing size—he’s also an excellent skater who has no trouble carrying the puck out of his zone. Is it always graceful and error-free? No, because he sometimes lacks a bit of quick decision-making under pressure. However, there’s no panic in his game, and the play moves forward when he’s on the ice.
He’s also particularly effective at judging the right moment to support the attack or drive to the net as an extra option. The giant may have an offensive upside that I’m underestimating right now, which could benefit from playing with creative teammates. These are questions that will be answered over the next few weeks.
2025 NHL Draft Ranking
If he develops his offensive game with the puck and improves the effectiveness of his point shot, we could realistically see Carter Amico being drafted mid-first round. Otherwise, a second-round selection is more than plausible. It will all depend on his consistency and how the U.S. National Development Program coaches use him.
We’ll keep a close eye on him all season at TSLH Prospects, so stay tuned if you want to learn more about him or any other player eligible for the 2025 NHL Draft.
