Ivan Demidov | First multi-point game in the KHL
Listed as the 3rd center for SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL, Ivan Demidov played his 6th game of the season today in Russia’s top league against Sochi. He wasted no time, as the Canadiens’ prospect recorded 2 points in the first period.
Firstly, despite what might be seen online, prospect Ivan Demidov is not playing center alongside Kuznetsov. Instead, he is on the wing, as usual, on the third line, which has been the most dangerous in his team since the start of the game.
The SKA organization has faced criticism from some Montreal Canadiens fans due to how they are using their prized player. Nevertheless, it must be said that the young player is not suffering from it. The coach is protecting Ivan Demidov in the right way, gradually giving him more responsibility. His ice time remains around 14 minutes, with regular time on the power play.
First multi-point game for Ivan Demidov
Today, the Habs’ prospect played on the first power play unit and registered 2 assists in the first period. The first assist came after an excellent play along the boards, protecting and recovering the puck behind the net. On his knees, the Russian sent the puck to the point, leading to a powerful one-timer from the defenseman, beating the goalie.
The second assist came from a routine play after a faceoff win by Kuznetsov. Ivan Demidov recovered the puck and passed it to his defenseman, who scored with a powerful shot.
There’s even a question surrounding SKA St. Petersburg’s first goal, as the puck seems to have deflected off Ivan Demidov before going to Kuznetsov behind the net, who then found a teammate leading to the goal. For now, an assist has not been added to Ivan Demidov’s stats, but we will keep an eye on it.
2nd period
Ivan Demidov had a good period, capped off by a goal from the top of the faceoff circle. The prospect showcased the accuracy of his powerful shot, with a screen in front of the goaltender. At that moment, the score was 6-2. SKA is putting on a real hockey clinic against Sochi.
He seems increasingly comfortable in physical battles for the puck. Whether it’s along the boards, entering the zone, or around the net, the young player is less timid than before. The strength in his legs is evident, dispelling any doubts that might have lingered regarding last year’s injuries.
3rd period
Ivan Demidov finished his game with a second goal in an empty net leaving him with a 4 points night (2g 2p). He played a total of 16 minutes and 26 seconds his highest of the season, including 2 minutes 35 on the powerplay. Ivan Demidov now has 6 points in 6 games in the KHL. Next game will be on sathurday against Bogdan Konyushkov’s team, Torpedo.
